Here at Hawaiian Air Depot, we’ve so far created designs meant to fit a particular kit perfectly. So when we worked up our Mustang alignment jigs they were meant for the Eduard 1/48 P-51D/K/F-6D Mustangs.
With our first test jigs cut and assembled, we looked around our workshop and found a bunch of half-built P-51s (we aren’t proud of this). So we took the Eduard jigs and fit them to the Airfix P-51D, the Meng P-51D, The Tamiya P-51D/Bs, the ICM P-51D/Bs, the Hasegawa P-51D, the Accurate Miniatures/Academy Allison Mustangs, and our sentimental favorite: the venerable Monogram P-51D.
It works on all of them. We’ve also got the Monogram B and Otaki, Fuijmi, Nichimo, Bronco, Hobby Boss, Revell, and Hawk/Testors Mustangs in our collection. We got tired of pulling stuff out, but everything we tried fit so well we expect the jigs will work for pretty much all of them. Maybe even the Modelviset P-51H?
If you’re like us you’ll building a lot more Mustangs in the future— including the upcoming Eduard P-51B/Cs (we’re betting it fits)— So this set should be extremely useful.
