We intended to release three sets of masks for the 1/32 Trumpeter TBD: one for Midway, one for Coral Sea/Wake, and one for prewar yellow wings. But after we released our first, a few enthusiasts suggested the other Midway TBD squadrons are perhaps overshadowed by the famous sacrifice of Torpedo 8.

Torpedo 6 was assigned to Enterprise at the Battle of Midway, and their sacrifice is equally compelling. Fourteen TBDs launched against Akagi and Kaga; only four were recovered and eighteen men were lost. Just five or six aircraft survived long enough to launch their torpedos; none detonated against their targets.

This download is an addendum to our Torpedo 8 sheet: with it, you can model 6-T-3 or 6-T-2, using the plane numbers here and the rest of the masks form the Torpedo 8 files.

We chose to depict 6-T-3 and 6-T-2 because good photos exist just prior to the Midway launch. 6-T-2 was piloted by Bill Esders, who ditched near the stricken Yorktown and was rescued.
