1/48 P-47M Thunderbolt Essential Masks for the Miniart Kit
Making our P-47M Essential Mask set was easy: we started with all the designs from our other Miniart Thunderbolt sets. For the P-47M, we’ve adjusted the position of the fuselage insignia (they were slightly higher on late Ds, Ms, and Ns) and added masks for the K-14 gunsight glass. Also included are designs for the clear parts, insignia, prop tips, wing steps, and wheels.
The other reason P-47M masks are easy is only one unit flew them in combat: the 56FG. So we’ve included mask designs for all the stuff the 56th did: oversized wing insignia (they hated good guys shooting at them) and the natural metal leading edges on their camouflaged Thunderbolts. On paper, the P-47M was the fastest piston-engined aircraft of the war, and the 56th liked those leading edges smooth, cause they liked flying the fastest piston-engined airplane in the world.
The one thing Miniart got wrong is they provide the wrong propeller. The kit includes the asymmetric Curtiss Electric prop used on D-30s and 40s rather than the AO Smith symmetric paddleblade with extended cuffs specific to the P-47M and N.
So we’ve designed a mask that helps you DIY modify the kit prop. It’s a template, actually: place it on the blades and cuffs, cut away the extra plastic extending past the template on the blades, and add material to match the templates on the cuff. Shape and smooth it all you favorite sanding implements and viola, you have a pretty good likeness of the correct prop.
Download includes two 180× 240mm (approximately 7 × 9.5 inches) svg files for Cricut, dxf copies for Silhouette, and a PDF Placement Guide.
